My Spiritual Ex Lover
aka. Lost Beauty
2015 HK Series
15 eps END (3)
My “Spiritual” Ex-Lover also known as Lost Beauty is a 2015 Hong Kong period, fantasy, comedy drama produced by TVB. The drama is TVB’s 2015 Lunar New Year drama starring most of the same cast from TVB’s 2014 Lunar New Year drama Queen Divas. Filming of the drama took place from September till November 2014. The series began airing on February 9, 2015 and will be broadcast weekly from Monday to Friday on TVB Jade channel 9:30-10:30 pm timeslot. This isn’t your regular A Chinese Ghost Story adaptation. Loosely based on the oft-adapted tale from Pu Songling’s Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, TVB’s My Spiritual Ex-Lover turns the haunting love story into a raucous comedy. Ning Choi San (Edwin Siu) is dealing with a lot right now. His girlfriend (Jinny Ng) is pushing him to get married. His eldest brother (Evergreen Mak) is so stingy that he can’t even treat their elderly father well. On top of all this, he’s preparing to take the government official exam. He sets off for the exam with his second elder brother (Oscar Leung), who’s looking to take the army general exam, but they soon run into trouble and get thrown out of the inn they’re staying in. Despite hearing stories of a beautiful female ghost who has a tendency to seduce men in the area, the brothers have no choice but to seek lodging at an abandoned shrine. There, they encounter the famous Nip Siu Sin (Nancy Sit), but instead of the beautiful ghost they’ve heard so much about, they find that Siu Sin is a slightly plump older woman! Poor scholar NING CHOI-SUN (Edwin Siu) is aiming to be the champion of the imperial examination, however, after several failed attempts, he has to stay temporarily in the lantern store owned by his second sister-in-law, YING CHUN-FA (Joyce Tang), and make a living as a painter together with his eldest brother NING CHOI-MAN (Evergreen Mak). His eldest brother is penny-pinching, and his second brother, NING CHOI-KWAN (Oscar Leung), is a henpecked husband who is uneducated; whereas his childhood sweetheart YING CHUN-KIU (Jinny Ng) often pushes him to finalize their wedding date. On top of that, his father NING PING-YAN (Yu Yang) becomes sick. Driven to despair, honest CHOI-SUN has no other choice but to agree to participate in CHUN-FA’s lantern selling scam by conning their neighbours, leading to a fierce battle between a Taoist master YIN CHIK-HA (Angela Tong) and a swindler DOU MAN-CHUN (Ricky Fan). Ever since then, NING’s family has been turned upside down. With all sorts of bizarre things happening to them each and every day, each of them starts behaving abnormally. At that moment, CHOI-SUN discovers that a “Spiritual Auntie”, NIP SIU-SIN (Nancy Sit), has been safeguarding him in secret so as to repay his kindness. Unfortunately, SIU-SIN’s power is still so incompetent that she often screws things up, resulting in endless hilarious-riots……
